Richard is an award-winning freelance theatre director who works throughout the United Kingdom. Educated at St Andrews University, he was awarded a Scottish Arts Council Trainee Director’s bursary at the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh and has since been Associate Director at the Dundee Rep, Pitlochry Festival and Nottingham Playhouse theatres.\u00a0He is a founder\u00a0member and Director of Productions of Firebrand Theatre Company.<\/p>\n

After the CATS Award-winning success of his production of The Monarch of The Glen<\/strong> in 2018, Richard directed Bold Girls<\/strong> at the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, and was then appointed Season Director at Pitlochry Festival Theatre where he has recently directed Chicago<\/strong> (\u201cravishingly entertaining\u201d 5***** Herald), which broke the theatre\u2019s box office records, The Last Witch<\/strong> (which toured to The Tron and Traverse Theatres) and Nicola McCartney\u2019s Heritage<\/strong> (\u201cutterly gripping and moving\u201d 5***** Joyce McMillan, Scotsman). His Firebrand production of Bill McLaren: The Voice of Rugby<\/strong> (5***** The Times), is scheduled to tour the UK in 2021.<\/p>\n
